Staff

Gilwell 24 needs about 300 staff during the event for the participants and leaders to get the most out of the event.  A number of these staff are commercial providers who provide specialist activities and equipment the rest are volunteers who attend on there own or with teams we recruit.

We are always looking for more staff either with activity skills or who are prepared to work hard to help make the event happen.  An advanced party arrives to start the preparations for the event on the Saturday prior to the actual event and then continues to work through the week.

This year we are also hoping to fill a number of rolls in the early months of 2010 to enable us to improve the event we deliver.

Camping space team (4-10)
Working with our onsite car parking team these individuals will allocate camping locations to groups as they arrive during the afternoon on Friday and early morning Saturday.  They will then be based on the camping fields for the duration of the event to help and support the groups and ensure the camping areas are safe and hospitable for everyone.  During the event this could involve being the first point of contact for questions, helping to solve the forgotten gas regulator problem as well as helping to ensure water, rubbish and toilets are in a good condition. This is a new team for 2010 and we are looking for a manager / assistant manager and associated support team.

Support team members (20)
The work of the support teams is never done and we are hoping to recruit more Leaders and Adult volunteers to these roles.  Moving equipment, helping to park vehicles, cleaning toilets, emptying bins may seem like an endless thankless task but your impact on the event is significant.  Helping the camping space and parking teams on arrival in large numbers will ensure our participants have a less stressful arrival and camp safely with better access to the camping fields for 2010.  Also there will be a chance to cover some of the bigger activities like Challenge Valley and parts of the Gilwell Gauntlet.  We are hoping to have at least two support teams on a rota basis throughout the event.  Additional support team staff are very welcome in the run up to the event.

Climbing / High Ropes instructors

Rifle shooting instructors

Activity zone members (30)
Supporting our commercial suppliers and our own activities you will be helping staff and run activities during the event.  Working on a rota basis you will spend time on and off the activities managing queues and helping the participants.  Example roles include Woodland Quaser, Inflatable slides, Zorbing, Quad Bikes.

Stuff we've wanted to do at Explorers Team

Every now and then someone has a bright idea which it just isn't possible to do in a normal meeting.  Either there are safety considerations, you don't have the equipment / space / time or you aren't quite sure where to start.  We are looking for a team that have made these things happen.  Examples of: I wonder if you can charge a mobile phone using a bike or can we build a hovercraft, are all on the wish list if we can find some suitably qualified staff to make it happen!
